Dior Bar suit, spring/summer 1947

Slightly different from the Met version; I recall reading somewhere, last year when I was making my wearable art project, that at the time the suit was made, archival copies of the clothes were not being saved by the designer because he wasn’t yet famous, and so when the original jacket went to the Met, they had to make a new skirt, because the original no longer existed and there was not “backup”.
My vest fabric. Went classic; it’s not wool, it’s some funky backed cotton, and it wasn’t quite what I wanted, but good enough. At $2.99/yd, it was a good price for a first attempt. And buttons! And lining!
The vest is my tailoring class’s midterm project, and we’re doing pants for the final, so I bought enough for both. They’ll be pretty shnazzy.

I think it’s time to make some stencils.
Ugh, those button-down blousy shirts with gathered waists never fit me because my boobs are too small and my waist is too high, so they always look TOO puffy.
I really like them though.
And I have to walk everywhere.
